Ash Sutton quickest in first practice despite oil leak

Outgoing British Touring Car Champion Ash Sutton set the pace in the opening practice session at Brands Hatch despite being forced to return to the garage prematurely with an oil leak.

The Subaru went quickest after a red flag stoppage for Bobby Thompson’s stranded Volkswagen CC at Dingle Dell, posting a 1:31.090 around the 2.8 mile Grand Prix loop.

That proved enough to best Andrew Jordan’s Pirtek-backed BMW 1-series by 0.126s, with WSR similarly showing their hand after the intermission.

But Sutton was then forced to pull off at the end of Cooper Straight with visible smoke from the front-right of the Levorg GT, and fluid leaking upon his return to the garage.

Tom Chilton was the leading title protagonist on his local circuit behind Jack Goff – a race winner in Kent at the season opener in April.

Adam Morgan’s Mercedes A-Class came next, heading Tom Ingram, with championship leader Colin Turkington down in 15th.

Team Dynamics pairing Matt Neal and Dan Cammish, Chris Smiley and Mike Bushell round out the top ten.

The weekend continues with second practice at 12:05 BST.
