Reece Barr leads Target Competition 1-2 in second Assen practice

Reece Barr led a Hyundai 1-2 in second practice for the TCR Europe series at the TT Circuit Assen in The Netherlands, beating Target Competition team-mate Kris Richard by less than half a tenth of a second.

Barr went to the top of the times with just under seven minutes of the session remaining to deny Swiss team-mate Richard the top time by a mere 0.021 seconds.

Hyundai and Honda cars continued to set the standard around the 4.555 km circuit, with KCMG duo Josh Files and Attila Tassi ending the session in third and fourth respectively, having been on top of the times for almost ten minutes in the middle of the session.

The third Target Hyundai of Dušan Borković was fifth fastest, whilst JSB Comptition’s Julien Briché put in a late improvement to take sixth in his Peugeot 308 TCR.

Maxime Potty hauled his Volkswagen Golf GTi – the only VW in the field – to seventh, ahead of the sole M1RA Hyundai of Dániel Nagy in eighth.

Piro Sport’s Peter Terting and Mikel Azcona completed the top ten, the latter being the best of a trio of CUPRA drivers immediately behind him.

First practice pace-setter Stefano Comini did not come close to matching his pace from earlier in the day, ending up in 18th after posting a time in his Honda which was over 3.4 seconds slower than his time in first practice.

Track limit warning flags were repeatedly shown during the session, and afterwards Terting, Tassi, Borković, Nagy, Francisco Abreu and Marie Baus-Coppens were summoned to the stewards.

Leopard Lukoil’s Jean-Karl Vernay did not take to the circuit and failed to post a time in the session due to damaging his front-right suspension against a kerb in the previous session, having earlier been 11th in first practice.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 08:59 CEST (07:59 BST) on Saturday morning.
