Peter Terting replaces Cedric Piro in Piro Sports Hyundai

Former WTCC racer Peter Terting will replace Cedric Piro in the Autodis Racing by Piro Sports Hyundai for the remainder of the TCR Europe season, starting at Assen this weekend.

Terting recently took part in the TCR Germany races at the Nürburgring, racing for Propsport Performance in an Audi RS3. Now the 34-year-old racer will switch to TCR Europe to continue in TCR machinery, as he steps into the Piro Sports team.

After winning the 2002 Volkswagen Lupo Cup, Terting earned a DTM drive with the Abt Audi Junior Team in 2003, at the age of just 19.

After just one top ten finish in DTM in 2003, Terting was the runner-up in the 2004 Germany SEAT León Cup, which in turn earned him a factory drive in the WTCC in 2005.

After one win that season he was retained in 2006, but lost his full season drive for 2007 and only took part in one event.

That spelt the end of his touring car career for more than ten years, with Terting competing instead in events such as the Nürburgring 24 Hours, before returning to touring cars earlier this year.

He previously raced a Hyundai in the Nürburgring 24 Hours earlier this year, claiming second in class.

“I’m very happy to return to international touring car competition after a long time,” said Terting. “After my participation with the Hyundai team in the 24H Nürburgring I have worked a lot to join TCR Europe with Piro Sports.

“It is always difficult to start in the middle of the season and we have completed only one test day so far. Let’s see what we can do!”
