Matt Simpson and Eurotech Racing part company

Matt Simpson has parted ways with the Eurotech Racing team following the British Touring Car Championship races at Rockingham, with the race winner set to run his car independently for the remainder of the season.

Simpson, a race winner at Oulton Park earlier in the year, has competed with three different teams in his first three seasons in the BTCC, initially débuting with Speedworks Motorsport in 2016 before switching to Team Dynamics in 2017 and subsequently Eurotech Racing in 2018.

The 36-year-old has enjoyed an upturn of form in 2018, resulting in a first pole position and win at Oulton Park and a second-ever podium last weekend at Rockingham.

He will now run his Honda Civic independently under the Simpson Racing banner for the rest of the year.

Eurotech Team Principal Jeff Smith admitted to being surprised by the sudden departure of Smith, leaving his team running two cars for Jack Goff and Brett Smith for the rest of the year.

“Having helped Matt to his best ever season in BTCC we were completely shocked to be told that he no longer wanted to run with us, especially immediately after the podium in race three,” said Smith.

“Whilst we are disappointed not to be running Matt for the rest of the 2018 season we wish him the best of luck in the remaining three rounds and beyond.”
