Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Dan Cammish bettered the 2017 pole position time as he headed up the timesheets in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Rockingham.
His best time of 1:22.817 around the 1.94 mile International Sports Car Circuit edged out Mike Bushell’s Volkswagen CC by 0.019 seconds.
The series’ highly-competitive nature was again highlighted, with seven models occupying the top seven positions as 30 cars ran within 2 seconds of one another.
That group was headed by Power Maxed Racing’s Senna Proctor, the Vauxhall Astra racer third but half a second adrift of Bushell, 0.013 seconds clear of Matt Simpson’s Honda.
Championship leader Tom Ingram mustered fifth in the Speedworks-run Toyota Avensis, with main title rival Colin Turkington only 14th in the BMW 125i M Sport.
Sam Tordoff took sixth as he looks to continue his record as the best average qualifier of the season this afternoon, with Adam Morgan’s Mercedes A-Class just 0.005s further back.
Jack Goff was classified eighth as Eurotech Racing turned their focus from race simulations to qualifying performance, with Bobby Thompson and Ollie Jackson rounding out the top ten.
Snetterton race winners Matt Neal and Ash Sutton put in an improved showing to 15th and 16th respectively, though double Champion Jason Plato continued to struggle en route to 18th.
Andrew Jordan and Tom Chilton were notable absentees from the head of the time sheets in 22nd and 23rd, though Jordan’s new stand-in team mate Ricky Collard took 27th despite 45 kilograms of ballast on board for his late entry.
The weekend continues with qualifying at 14:50 this afternoon.
