Andrew Jordan emerges fastest in interrupted second practice

BMW’s Andrew Jordan emerged as the fastest driver in a twice red-flagged second practice for the British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill, pipping Honda’s Can Cammish to the top time late on in the session.

Jordan went fastest twice in the final minutes of the session, which had earlier been red-flagged for the second time when Simpson Racing’s Matt Simpson went off at the chicane, losing a wheel on his Honda Civic in the process.

Jordan managed to edge out Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Cammish, who had traded the top time with the BMW driver in the final three-minute flurry of activity, leaving him less than a tenth clear at the top.

Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan was third, having been fastest with a time of 51.394 seconds before the first red flag was flown when AmD Tuning’s Ollie Jackson went off into the tyre barriers at the chicane after 28 minutes. Morgan then went on to improve with a time of 51.323 seconds in his Mercedes.

BTC Norlin Racing’s Chris Smiley was fourth, ahead of HMS Racing’s Rob Austin in fifth, with the Alfa Romeo driver once again featuring competitively inside the top five.

Team Parker Racing’s Stephen Jelley was also on strong form, putting his BMW in sixth, ahead of Eurotech Racing’s Brett Smith in seventh.

Tom Oliphant ensured both Ciceley Mercedes continued to feature inside the top ten with eighth, whilst the second BTC Norlin Honda of Dan Lloyd and Aiden Moffat’s Laser Tools Racing Mercedes completed the top ten.

Championship leader Colin Turkington ended up in 12^th, four tenths off the pace in his fully-ballasted BMW 125i M Sport car, albeit some four tenths quicker than the Northern Irishman had gone earlier in the day.

Having earlier topped first practice, Subaru’s Ash Sutton was just 13^th this time out, just over four tenths off the pace and over three tenths slower than he had been in his pace-setting morning session.

Speedworks Motorsport title contender Tom Ingram put in a slightly faster time in his Toyota, but ended up in just 16^th position.

Team HARD’s Bobby Thompson was the only driver not to take to the session, with his Volkswagen sitting in the pits throughout.

Qualifying is scheduled to take place at 15:25 BST.
