WSR’s Rob Collard will not start the double points final British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Snetterton, after Team BMW were unable to repair his car after his race two shunt.
Collard tangled with fellow BMW racer Stephen Jelley at the first corner three laps from the end of race two, pitching his 125i M Sport into the tyre barriers backwards.
Despite the best efforts of the WSR mechanics, Collard’s car has not been able to be repaired in time for the double distance final race, ending a miserable weekend for the Hampshire racer.
Collard also retired from the first race after contact at the start, meaning he takes no points away from the Snetterton weekend.
“I made the mistake going into Turn 1 and clipped the back of Stephen, and it put me into a spin where I hit the barrier,” said Collard to TouringCars.Net.
“I’ve got to put my hands up and apologise to Stephen for that – it’s an uncharacteristic mistake that I made in tricky conditions.”
Unfortunately @CollardRob has been ruled out of Race 3 as it is not possible to repair his car in time. Big shame. #BTCC pic.twitter.com/v9TkXSqEEJ
