Norbert Nagy ecstatic after ‘miracle’ first WTCR podium

Zengo Motorsport’s Norbert Nagy was lost for words after claiming a ‘miracle’ first podium in the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) at the Slovakia Ring.

Starting from reverse-grid pole position, the CUPRA racer made a level start with the Hyundai i30 N of Gabriel Tarquini alongside but lost out through the high-speed right hander at Turn 2.

Once the Italian had established an advantage that would extend to 2.1 seconds at the chequered flag, Nagy was able to focus on keeping touring car veteran Yvan Muller behind – successfully.

“I think the start was good but Gabriele’s was better,” Nagy told TouringCars.net.

“The first lap was like a nightmare but after that I thought I could collect this position of second and I’m very happy with that, I can’t speak it and I can’t write it.

“My only goal after the start was not to do any mistakes and it happened. It’s like a miracle for me to be on the podium and to have the podium with two guys who were my childhood heroes of course with Norbi. It’s fantastic.”

He will start the final race of the weekend at 11:45 BST tomorrow from tenth position.
