Benjamin Lessennes believes podiums are the next realistic aim

Benjamin Lessennes believes podium finishes are the logical next step as he continues to make progress in his rookie season in the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR).

The Boutsen Ginion Racing driver has piloted his Honda Civic Type R to six top-ten finishes thus far in 2018, including a notable fourth on the Nurburgring Nordschliefe.

Given that the majority of circuits on the calendar – including the 3.6 mile Slovakia Ring host venue for this weekend’s triple-header – are unknown territory for the Belgian, he believes the potential is there to keep improving.

He believes that, if the car performs as well as expected this weekend, silverware is an attainable result.

“Slovakia Ring is another new circuit for me – just like virtually every other circuit in WTCR – but it hasn’t held either me or the team back this year and we’ve managed to finish in the top 10 on six occasions already, including fourth place at the Nürburgring,” commented Lessennes.

“Logically, the next target is the podium and if the car is as strong this weekend as I expect it to be, I think this is a realistic aim.”

The weekend begins with opening free practice, scheduled for 11:40 BST.
