Munkong Sathienthirakul joins TCR Europe grid at Spa

Thai driver Munkong Sathienthirakul will join the grid for the TCR Europe series at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, where he will race a CUPRA TCR run by Monlau Competición.

Sathienthirakul has been a regular on the Thai scene, having been champion in 2015 and the runner-up of the Super 2000 class in the Thailand Super Series in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

He has tasted TCR machinery several times before, including three outings in the TCR International Series in 2015, 2016 and 2017 when the series visited the Buriram International Circuit.

On those occasions he claimed a best result of ninth in 2015 and last year he just missed out on the top ten when racing an Opel Astra TCR for DG Sport Compétition.

The 32-year-old also claimed a race victory in TCR Thailand in 2015.

Sathienthirakul will join Spanish team Monlau Competición, who have a history of campaigning TCR cars in long-distance races.

“We are working flat out to arrive well prepared, as we are aiming for reaching the best possible result,” said Team Manager David Simón. “We have a very good feeling for this participation in the next races.”

Sathienthirakul is looking forward to his first race in Europe in TCR, and he is expected to also contest the events at Assen and Barcelona later in the year with the team.

“I am very pleased for having the opportunity to join the TCR Europe. I am happy with the way the team prepares the car and I think we will be very competitive in the races.”
