Kris Richard takes race two victory at Spa amid contact with Julien Briché

Target Competition’s Kris Richard held on from late pressure from Julien Briché to take victory in the reverse-grid TCR Europe race at Spa.

The pair made contact – which remains under investigation – at the end of the Kemmel Straight on the penultimate lap, as Briché almost got past before he took to the run-off at Les Combes.

Briché held on to second position from Belgian Maxime Potty, who scored his second podium of the weekend.

Race one winner Jean-Karl Vernay had progressed six positions up to fourth but his efforts ended up abruptly after contact with Briché at the Bus Stop chicane.

In fourth position was championship leader Mikel Azcona, who extended his advantage in the standings as nearest rival Dušan Borković finished seventh, and Jean-Karl Vernay failed to score.

Stian Paulsen completed the top five, ahead of Dániel Nagy in the best of the Hyundais, with his stable-mate Borković directly behind.

Next was race two polesitter Reece Barr, who dropped eight positions on the opening lap and could not recover.

Danny Kroes crossed the line ninth in his CUPRA, with Francisco Mora rounding out the top ten.

Two-time TCR International Series champion Stefano Comini was started third, but pulled off immediately with an electronic bug which forced him to retire.

With just over 12 minutes remaining the safety car was brought out to recover the stranded Honda of Attila Tassi at Les Combes, who seemingly suffered a front-left puncture.

After the restart, second-place man Josh Files slowed with a suspected ECU issue, and was forced to retire for the second time this weekend.

The next round of TCR Europe is at the Hungaroring in four weeks’ time [07/08 July].
