WTCR compensation weights see Hyundai and Honda emerge heaviest

The first use of compensation weights in the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) will see the Hyundai and Honda cars as the heaviest, whilst all other models have shed the 60 kg that they started the season with.

All cars started the season with the full 60 kg, but only the Hyundai i30 N TCR cars will retain at the top end of the scale, affecting the BRC cars of points leader Gabriele Tarquini and Norbert Michelisz, and the YMR-run cars of Yvan Muller and Thed Björk.

The Honda Civic Type-R cars also retain 20 kg of weight, affecting the six cars entered by Münnich Motorsport, Boutsen Ginion Racing and KCMG.

The adjustments mean the Hyundai will run at 1,325 kg when considering the changes to the Balance of Performance [BoP] made ahead of last weekend’s TCR Europe event, with the Honda running at 1,265 kg, with the compensation weight essentially negating the 20 kg BoP reduction.

The Audi is the second heaviest car, despite carrying no compensation weight, at 1,275 kg. Equal with the Honda as the third heaviest car is the Volkswagen Golf GTi.

The smaller-engine Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Peugeot 308 TCR, along with the CUPRA TCR, will run at the lowest weight of 1,245 kg.
