Dan Lloyd waited until the last second to post the fastest lap of the weekend so far in practice for the TCR UK series at Knockhill, with WestCoast Racing team-mate Andreas Bäckman three tenths further back in second.
Under sunny Scottish skies, Lloyd first went to the top of the times just before the half-way stage when he laid down a lap of 51.159 seconds, close to the pace he set in Friday’s free testing day.
The WestCoast racing driver then remained on top of the times for the rest of the session, improving to a 51.075 on his penultimate run before becoming the first driver to dip below the 51s with a lap of 50.969 seconds on his final tour.
That gave the points leader a comfortable margin over Andreas Bäckman of almost three tenths of a second – an impressive feat given the short nature of the 1.26 mile circuit.
Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat put his Alfa Romeo in third, having traded top times in the first half of the session with Lloyd and Bäckman.
The Hyundai of Lewis Kent was fourth fastest, almost half a second back, ahead of Pyro Motorsport’s Ollie Taylor in fifth as the leading Honda driver in his Civic FK6.
A late improvement from Finlay Crocker in the new-spec Honda Civic FK7 saw the Scot end the session in sixth, having jumped Jessica Bäckman in the last two minutes.
Team BMR’s Josh Price, making his and the team’s first TCR UK appearance, was at the bottom of the times, having completed just three laps in his Honda Civic FK6 due to suffering from an engine failure despite the new unit having completed just 60 laps.
Sean Walkinshaw didn’t take to the track due to having to wait for a replacement part on his Honda following a shunt in Friday’s testing. The part is understood to be on its way from JAS Motorsport in Italy and Walkinshaw may yet make it out in qualifying.
Qualifying takes place at 14:55 BST.
