Tom Ingram playing the long game towards reverse-grid result

Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram is aiming to break into the top twelve in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Donington Park, in order to secure a good position for the reverse grid race.

The championship leader, who struggled to 14th in the opener with a heavily ballast-laden Toyota Avensis also running the option harder compound tyre, is expected to move forward considerably in race two.

TouringCars.net understands from Dunlop that the move from Ingram to lose both obstacles in the opening race should lead to an advantage of ‘at least’ eighth tenths of a second per lap in the second contest.

Ingram admitted after the race it had been the team’s strategy to get both detractors out of the way as quickly as possible.

“We went in to lose the weight and the hard tyre, so we’ve got that out of the way,” commented Ingram.

“We can see that there’s performance in the car, we held on fairly well against the likes of Jack [Goff], Ash Sutton and so on.

“We were holding a similar ground with them, which was good. We can also see there’s good performance with a lack of weight – Matt Neal came from 17th to 6th so we know it can be done, and that’s our plan for the next one – break into the top ten, get a good reverse grid draw and try to repeat Brands.”

The second race is scheduled to get underway at 14:40.
