Aiden Moffat stakes a claim in final TCR UK practice session

Aiden Moffat’s last-gasp effort gave the Laser Tools Racing pilot the bragging rights in the final TCR UK Series practice session at Silverstone.

Daniel Lloyd’s Volkwagen Golf GTi completed an early tour of the circuit in 1:03.922, from which the former British Touring Car Championship racer looked likely to be headed.

Moffat, however, ended the session strongly and posted a 1:03.907 in the dying embers to edge out the BoP (Balance of Performance) test driver.

Pyro Motorsport’s Ollie Taylor came close, but ultimately could only lap within 0.171 seconds of the WestCoast Racing driver.

The sister WestCoast machine of Andreas Backman was fourth ahead of sibling Jessica in fifth, with Darelle Wilson an impressive sixth in the Vauxhall Astra on only his second outing with the car.

Finlay Crocker’s Honda Civic Type R FK7, Olli Kangas’ CUPRA TCR and Lewis Kent’s Hyundai i30 N could only be separated by a tenth of a second in seventh, eighth and ninth, whilst Stewart Lines (Maximum Motorsport) rounded out the top ten as the highest placed DSG Trophy entrant in the CUPRA TCR.

SWR’s Howard Fuller and Carl Swift complete the field, with Derek Palmer Jnr still an absentee in the second Alfa Romeo Guilietta as the team sources a replacement fuel injector ahead of qualifying.

Qualifying around the 1.6 mile National circuit at Silverstone is scheduled to get underway at 16:25.
