Daniel Lloyd delivered a last-gasp effort to snatch pole position for the inaugural TCR UK Series race at Silverstone.
The WestCoast Racing driver posted a blisteringly fast 1:00.804 in the dying embers of the session to eclipse Aiden Moffat’s Alfa Romeo Guilietta TCR by a mere X.
Howard Fuller similarly improved late on to head up the second row in the Honda Civic TCR alongside the Hyundai i30 N of Lewis Kent, who seemed to have secured provisional pole on a wet track surface with just seconds remaining.
Pyro Motorsport’s Ollie Taylor took fifth ahead of Carl Swift, the fastest runner of the DSG Trophy entrants behind the wheel of his CUPRA TCR.
Darelle Wilson impressed in the Vauxhall Astra and headed the timesheets for a stint, but ultimately was forced to settle for seventh in only his third competitive outing in the car.
Andreas Bäckman’s Volkswagen Golf GTi was eighth ahead of Olli Kangas’ CUPRA and sibling Jessica, again in a VW.
Finlay Crocker’s Honda Civic Type R FK7 came next, with Stewart Lines’ CUPRA TCR rounding out the field.
A stewards decision is expected on whether Derek Palmer Jnr will be permitted to take the start in the sister Laser Tools Racing Alfa Romeo Guilietta after he failed to qualify with an ongoing fuel injector problem, meaning he falls outside the 107% rule.
Race One is scheduled to get underway at 14:00 tomorrow.
