SEAT has launched CUPRA, a new brand, becoming its own entity within the Spanish manufacturer’s range and encompassing its motorsport and racing division SEAT Sport.
At an exclusive event in Barcelona SEAT announced the brand, which emphasises SEAT’s expression of sportiness. The entity has been created to develop models in conjunction with SEAT and with a commitment to growing independently.
“CUPRA is a big opportunity for SEAT, for our customers and for the business,” said SEAT President Luca de Meo. “The whole project has surfaced as the dream of a group of people which were looking for a way to conquer a new group of car lovers.”
The CUPRA TCR will be the brand’s first racing car and will take part in TCR races from 2018 onwards, continuing the successful legacy of the SEAT León TCR.
“Our ambition for the CUPRA brand is to double the sales within the next four to five years,” said SEAT Vice-President for Sales and Marketing Wayne Griffiths. “We plan to focus our business model on four main pillars: distribution, partnerships, racing and product.”
