Gordon Shedden aiming to end season inside top three

Gordon Shedden is hoping to hold on to his position of third overall in the British Touring Car Championship as the season draws to a close this weekend at Brands Hatch.

The Scot has fallen away from the title battle in recent rounds, leaving him 66 points adrift of points leader Ash Sutton.

Although that mathematically leaves the reigning champion still in title contention, Shedden’s focus has instead shifted to securing third overall in the standings, with Tom Ingram just one point behind in fourth.

“My main aim for Brands Hatch will be to finish the season on a high – and I’ll certainly be giving it a go,” said Shedden. “I want to bring some silverware home, and obviously third place in the championship is still up for grabs and is very important to me.

“I’ve finished inside the top three in the BTCC Drivers’ standings every year since 2010, so I want to keep that run going.

“It’s a three-way fight that closed up considerably at Silverstone and there will clearly be some very quick cars in the mix, but I’m confident that the Civic Type R will perform well around Brands GP.”

Shedden last won on the Grand Prix layout of the circuit in 2014, when he gave the one-off Honda Civic Tourer its last win in the final race of the season.

“I’ve obviously got good memories of the track, having won the title there three times. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere there to end the season and it’s the kind of circuit that should play to our strengths, so we need to make sure we exploit that.”
