Denis Dupont to make TCR International début in China

Belgian racer Denis Dupont will make his début in the TCR International Series at Zhejiang in China, racing a SEAT León for the Comtoyou Racing outfit.

The 24-year-old will race alongside the team’s regular Audis of Stefano Comini and Frédéric Vervisch, and he will be supported by the RACB National Team.

Dupont finished third overall in the 2016 TCR Benelux championship, sharing a car with Sam Dejonghe. In 2017, Dupont and Dejonghe are classified in eighth overall, with one victory in the hour-long qualifying race at Zolder.

“Racing in the International Series is a project I have worked on for a few months,” explained Dupont. “I’m pleased that, with support from my partners and Comtoyou Racing, I am given the opportunity to race in China.

“I am very happy to drive a SEAT León, because I know it well. This will help me a lot, as I won’t have the opportunity to test the car I will drive in Zhejiang, and being familiar with the car will let me focus on getting to know the track.”

Dpont admits that he is not setting himself any particular goals at the brand new circuit, in part because it is both his first time in the International Series and his first outing at the track.

“It is difficult to predict. The level of the series is very high, but that of TCR Benelux is just as good. I am already happy just to take part in the Chinese event, as it will be a further experience.

“Then, if things go well, it will be a bonus for the future.”
