Mat’o Homola praises ongoing set-up changes for pole position result

DG Sport Compétition’s Mat’o Homola was a happy man, after taking pole position for this weekend’s TCR International Series event at the Salzburgring, in what was a very close qualifying fight between the top three this afternoon (Saturday, June 10th).

The Slovak racer would pip GE-Force’s Duŝan Borković for the top spot on the grid by just 0.071 seconds in his Opel Astra TCR, with Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Pepe Oriola a further 0.006 seconds adrift.

He praised the set-up changes that his team made to his car over the test and practice sessions, before qualifying again showed the pure one-lap speed of the Astra TCR.

“We were guessing at some of the set-up things, but you can see that they worked. It’s one thing to win Qualifying, but you get more points in the races so that’s what I have to concentrate on,” explained the 22-year-old, who is currently 14th in the overall standings with 25 points.

“I have always had good results here in Salzburgring, so I know this track suits me and I like the fast corners.”

He also felt that it was not worth taking too many risks to put his car on pole position, but is looking to move up the leaderboard with a more consistent showing in Austria this weekend.

“I don’t know how to measure the risks I took, but I know I wasn’t 100% in Turn 9.

“One mistake can ruin your whole weekend and I know I need the points.”
