Adam Morgan’s Independents title hopes boosted by strong weekend

Adam Morgan was elated with three top five finishes in the opening British Touring Car Championship meeting of the season, giving his quest for Independents honours the perfect start.

Morgan managed to qualify a commendable sixth amid the changeable conditions on Saturday, before underlining his pace with third, fourth and fifth placed finishes to leave himself fourth in the standings, a mere nine points adrift of leader Gordon Shedden.

Though Morgan is targeting sufficient consistency to challenge for the overall championship this year, he underlined the positive impact this good start has on his target of being Independents champion.

He leaves Brands Hatch with a slender three point advantage over Tom Ingram in the category standings.

“To get on the podium in race one was incredible,” said Morgan.

“A third, fourth and fifth was more than we expected and to be leading the Independents’ is magnificent.

“Consistency is going to win the championship this year. We need to keep those points ticking over and we’ll be near the front come the end of the season.

“The car was extremely quick in the first race and I think we’re in for a good shout. We aim to be in overall title contention this year although the Independents’ is our main target.”
