Andrew Jordan admits BMW made him feel ‘on top of his game’ in testing

Andrew Jordan described the sensation of first driving his BMW Pirtek Racing 1-series as feeling ‘on top of his game’ ahead of his maiden campaign with West Surrey Racing.

Jordan, who made a return to the winners circle in two occasions last season, joins Colin Turkington and Rob Collard in the first manufacturer-backed BMW team in the British Touring Car Championship since 1996.

The switch follows Motorbase Performance’s deal with cereal heavyweights Shredded Wheat, which clashed with Jordan’s title sponsorship from Pirtek and necessitated a move.

Having developed through one of the more turbulent periods in his career, Jordan mused when asked by TouringCars.net if he felt more rounded by his experiences since winning his championship title in 2013.

“That’s a good question. I’m probably more rounded in the sense that you’ve got to learn to take the rough with the smooth, it’s how you bounce back from that,” he admitted.

“But if I’m honest, when I tested this car for three days before Christmas, I felt on top of my game straightaway. It sounds like I’m just saying that, but I speak to my family and friends about it and I just love driving it!

“I didn’t have one spin, I didn’t put one mark on the car, it was a perfect three days.”

He acknowledged the challenge he faces from within BMW will prove testing, but was in pragmatic mood about his chances of emerging as the top contender from within the team.

“Of course it’s going to be a tough year and I’ve got fast team-mates, but I know that I’ll be able to be on top of my game and some days that’ll be good enough – some days it won’t be quite good enough – that’s just how it goes.

“I feel well-rounded – you don’t forget how to win championships – you just need a bit of luck sometimes. I’m sure we’ll be contenders this year.”

Jordan will now complete WSR’s pre-season testing programme on UK shores after a week at Castelloli Circuit in Spain, before the series convenes for it’s Season Launch at Donington Park on March 16th.
