WestCoast Racing and Sportpromotion split for 2017

WestCoast Racing and long-term partner Sportpromotion have announced they will go their separate ways in 2017, opening up the opportunity for the Swedish team to switch car next year.

The two entities have been part of the TCR International Series since its inception last year, but they will now go their separate ways for 2017.

Sportpromotion will focus its efforts on promoting the new TCR Scandinavia series for 2017, with the regulations being adopted by the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

Thus the team’s three Honda Civic TCR cars will depart the international series to move to the regional and national TCR championships.

That opens up the opportunity for WestCoast Racing to change car for 2017, with the team already announcing their intention to remain in the flagship championship.

The team also revealed that they will have new drivers and sponsors on board for next year.

“WestCoast Racing has a deep racing heritage and it is driven to win more than ever before,” said WestCoast Racing Team Manager James Nixon.

“Winning is everything and these are exciting times, as the team will be back in the 2017 TCR International Series with a brand-new project, which we cannot wait to reveal to the world.”

Sportpromotion owner Greger Petersson thanked both WestCoast Racing and JAS Motorsport, who built the Honda TCR cars which they have campaigned to 12 race wins.

“I would like to thank JAS Motorsport for its efforts,” said Petersson. “The last two years in the TCR International Series have been incredible for Sportpromotion and I’m very proud to have achieved so many memorable victories and to have been part of the infrastructure that has built TCR from a fledgling concept to a premier touring car format.

“I wish both JAS and WestCoast Racing well for the future, but now it’s time for us to turn our attention to making a success of the new TCR Scandinavia Series, building on the legacy of the Swedish Touring Car Championship.”

WestCoast Racing will also continue to run cars in Swedish GTs and Formula Renault Young Driver programmes.
