José María López to start from back of grid for Opening Race

Defending World Touring Car Champion José María López will start the Opening Race from the back of the grid, after his Citroën team were forced to change the engine on his car overnight.

Having qualified on pole position on Saturday when compatriot Esteban Guerrieri had his lap time disallowed, López was set to start the reverse-grid Opening Race from tenth.

The Argentine now faces the prospect of starting the first of his home races from the back of the grid in 18th position after his team opted to change the engine on his C-Elysée.

Under the regulations, that means the race after the engine change is the one in which the penalty applies, leaving López to start from pole for the Main Race afterwards.
