Sam Tordoff takes controlled win in race two at Oulton Park

Sam Tordoff became the ninth different winner in the first eleven races of this years British Touring Car Championship as he took a comfortable victory in the second contest of the weekend at Oulton Park ahead of race one winner Colin Turkington and his team-mate Jason Plato.

Tordoff, who inherits the championship lead by a five point margin from Matt Neal as a result, marked the weekend in which WSR celebrate 100 races with the BMW 125i M-Sport by taking the win by a margin of 1.638 seconds.

The hard work was completed at the start as Tordoff made a strong sweeping move around the outside of Turkington into Old Hall after the two made level starts despite a weight disparity of 12 kilograms.

The safety car was called for at the end of the first lap as Aiden Moffat was left stranded with damage at Knickerbrook, whilst Ashley Sutton was forced to pit with a broken rear tow link, forcing the field to bunch up, although Tordoff controlled the field once again at the restart.

Jason Plato then began to stake his claim to the runners up spot, setting the fastest lap on race five before attempting a move on his team-mate on the outside of Cascades, although he was ultimately forced to remain behind the Ulsterman and the two maintained a steady gap for the rest of the contest.

The feistiest battle on circuit was undoubtedly the fight for sixth, as Josh Cook came under intense pressure from half distance from an array of touring car stalwarts including three-time champion and outgoing standings leader, Matt Neal, along with Rob Collard, who charged through impressively from 23rd on the grid to the top ten within eight laps.

The former Clio Cup champion made his MG6 GT the widest model in Cheshire in a bid to keep the ensemble behind, keeping true to his bullish style of defending after contact with Matt Neal added some edge to the affair.

He was relieved of the pressure in the closing stages, however, as Rob Collard ran wide at Old Hall after finally besting the MG pilot. He then made contact with Cook as he returned to the circuit on the run down Dentons and span off at Cascades with a puncture, curtailing an impressive charge.

Cook was able to hang on to the position from Matt Neal to the flag and will start the final race from second after Neal was drawn onto pole for the reverse grid race. Neal will, however, start the contest on the soft tyre, adding another fascinating element to the third and final contest.

However, the honours for race two went the way of Tordoff and JCT600 with GardX, and they head into race three eager to consolidate their newfound championship lead.
