Mat’o Homola: ‘Winning is a dream come true’

Mat’o Homola says that taking his first win in the TCR International Series is ‘a dream come true’ after the Slovakian racer took victory in the first race at Oschersleben in Germany.

Homola mastered the tricky conditions to take his first win after 11 starts in the championship, with the race taking place on a slippery and damp circuit.

The B3 Racing driver took the lead on lap three when early leader and pole-sitter Dušan Borković was caught out by the conditions and slid wide. Homola himself didn’t make any such mistakes and was thereafter able to take the win which gave him a brief championship lead.

“I got this first win I was looking for so hard, and I feel very happy about it,” said Homola. “It’s a dream come true after seven years in touring car racing.

“I chose to do TCR because it is an international series, and I think it was the right choice.”

Homola added that he is not going to get carried away by his improvement in the championship standings, with the 21-year-old now third overall, four points adrift of the lead, after finishing in fifth in race two.

“The race was quite tough, as it was very wet in some portions of the track and conditions kept changing,” added Homola. “On top of that, there were two safety car periods, which is always stressful, but I managed to control everything.

“Now I am also well positioned in the championship but things are too tight to make any prediction, I’ll take them step by step.”
