Mat Jackson continued his fine British Touring Car Championship form with the fastest time in a shortened first practice session at Silverstone, ahead of Josh Cook and Warren Scott.
Jackson, who won at Rockingham three weeks ago, set a best time of 58.952s in his Motorbase Ford Focus to edge out Cook and Scott by less than a tenth of a second in a close opening 40 minutes of running.
Having gone third, Scott then brought out a late red flag which caused the session to be ended early. The Team BMR owner had an accident on the exit of Copse, and at the time of publication was being attended to by the medical team.
Jack Goff was fourth in his MG6 GT, while Dave Newsham, who had traded times at the top of the standings with Aron Smith early on in the session, was fifth in the second Power Maxed Chevrolet Cruze.
Championship leader Gordon Shedden was sixth, while Colin Turkington, Andrew Jordan, Andy Priaulx and erstwhile leader Smith – who was just 0.236s shy of Jackson’s time – completed the top ten.
Tony Gilham was 25th on his return to the championship, lapping his Toyota Avensis 1.452s slower than Jackson’s time.
