Andrew Jordan remains focused on title fight

Andrew Jordan insists that his ambition of a second British Touring Car Championship title “isn’t over yet” ahead of this weekend’s visit to Rockingham.

Jordan has enjoyed a consistent year in his MG, but remains the only driver in the top ten of the championship standings without a win to his name.

A solid weekend at Knockhill nevertheless saw Jordan regain ground on championship leader Jason Plato, with the 26 year-old now fifth, 30 points behind his rival.

Two wins at Rockingham in 2013 played a pivotal role in Jordan’s charge to the title that year, and while the Triple Eight driver was cautious on his chances, he remained upbeat about his form ahead of the final rounds.

“We should be strong but we can’t rely on how the car performed there last season because everyone has moved forward,” said Jordan of his hopes ahead of the Rockingham weekend. “I’m feeling confident though, Knockhill was a really good weekend for me in terms of the pace we showed and I’ll admit that my performance behind the wheel was the best it has been all season.

“It’s important that we come out of the box and hit the ground running in practice. As a team we’ve kept our heads down since the summer break and have made progress; hopefully that will be shown in what we can achieve at Rockingham.

“Rockingham is a circuit I enjoy and obviously have good memories there having won twice in 2013. It also provides a really interesting challenge in terms of having to be committed through Turn 1 and then technical on the infield, it’s a real drivers’ circuit. Tyre wear is usually quite high so we need to be mindful of that as well, but it produces some great racing and I’m really looking forward to it.

“We’re 30 points behind the championship leader now so we have to step it up in these last three events; it isn’t over just yet.”
