Robert Wickens kept Mercedes-Benz on top of the times in second practice for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters at the Norisring, beating Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller to the top time.
Wickens, who had been second fastest in first practice, hit the top of the times after around 45 minutes and ended the session 0.095 seconds faster than Rockenfeller.
Mercedes’ Christian Vietoris was third, having improved in the closing minutes of the hour-long session, ahead of stablemate Pascal Wehrlein in fourth.
Norisring ‘master’ Jamie Green was fifth fastest in his Rosberg Audi, ahead of fellow Brit Paul di Resta’s Mercedes in sixth.
Championship leader Marco Wittmann was the top BMW driver in seventh, with the Munich manufacturer continuing to struggle in second practice.
Gary Paffett was eighth, having earlier topped the times for the first half of the session. Paffett was the fifth Mercedes driver in the top ten.
Completing the top ten were Audi’s Mattias Ekström and BMW’s Bruno Spengler, with the latter having improved his time in the closing minutes of the session.
The morning’s early pace-setter Daniel Juncadella was 11th, whilst the only other Mercedes not in the top ten was Vitaly Petrov who ended the session in 23rd and last.
Incredibly all 23 drivers were covered by just 0.626 seconds. There were no major incidents during the session, with all drivers keeping enough distance from the walls of the street circuit.
Qualifying takes place at 14:50 CEST (13:50 BST).
