Sam Tordoff fastest in shortened second practice

Sam Tordoff set the pace in a shortened second British Touring Car Championship session at Croft, ahead of Andrew Jordan and Adam Morgan.

Tordoff twice set the fastest lap of the session, beating his initial time of 1:24.203s with an ultimate pace-setting effort of 1:24.115s with ten minutes left on the clock, with he and second placed man Jordan both below Colin Turkington’s qualifying record from last year.

But shortly after his effort the session was red flagged, after Rob Austin went off into the gravel at Clervaux, ultimately bringing the session to an end.

The session started in familiar circumstances, with Jack Goff and Hunter Abbott the only two drivers to stay out and complete flying laps – although their respective efforts of 1:33.643s and 1:38.210s were not representative.

Glynn Geddie was instead the first man to post anything resembling a representative time with a 1:27.510s, but that was quickly bettered by a host of cars, including Jordan who immediately recorded his best time of 1:24.390s.

The eBay Motors cars were anonymous for the opening 15 minutes, but Turkington propelled his car into second shortly afterwards to remind everyone why he is expected to go well this weekend.

But Tordoff showed them all how it was done with a blistering pair of laps, while a late effort from Morgan meant that he and Jordan ahead ended the session in the same positions as they did the first, with Turkington in fourth.

A second attempt from Geddie put him an impressive fifth at the flag ahead of Austin, who despite his time now finds himself in a race to be ready for qualifying this afternoon.

Gordon Shedden was seventh ahead of Alain Menu, and an impressive performance from Martin Depper in the second Pirtek car gave him the ninth fastest time with Dave Newsham rounding out the top ten.

After his struggles in first practice, Aiden Moffat was able to set a time in the second session, but Jason Plato ended up bottom of the pile as he had to abort his attempt at a flying lap as the red flags came out.

Qualifying takes place at 15:45 BST.
