Andrew Jordan: ‘We’ll take risks if needed’

Andrew Jordan has admitted that he is prepared to take risks if required in his pursuit of the 2013 British Touring Car Championship drivers’ title.

The opening five weekends of the season has seen Jordan secure two victories and five other podium finishes to lie second overall, 19 points behind triple Champion and fellow Honda racer Matt Neal.

The reigning Independents’ Champion also holds a 30 point advantage over his nearest rivals in the Independents’ class while team-mate Jeff Smith is 8th overall and fourth in the Independents. Their results have seen the team occupy 3rd in the HiQ Teams’ Championship and lead the way by 37 points in the Independent teams’ trophy.

Jordan admits that the next 11 weeks – and five race weekends – will be about consistently scoring points and taking the rough with the smooth.

“There will be so many ups and downs for everyone over the second half of the year, so we just need to keep scoring,” Jordan said. “We’ll take risks if we need to, but right now we really need to be consistent. There is still a long way to go.”

During the six week summer break, Jordan had two days of testing at Snetterton and had mixed results from the two days but hopes to repeat his win from 12 months ago.

“Testing was a bit hit and miss and we tried some things that didn’t work,” reported Jordan.

“We tested with a lot of weight on the car and I think race two will be our strongest. Snetterton is the circuit where the success ballast hurts the most: there are so many stops and starts for very slow corners. We’ll start the weekend with 36kg of ballast so we just need to keep being consistent. We had a win at Snetterton last year.”
