Wiechers Sport confirms 2013 plans

Wiechers Sport Team Manager Dominik Greiner has confirmed that the Neinburg-based team will return to the World Touring Car Championship for the 2013 campaign.

The team, who have been in the series since 2005 will once again compete with a BMW 320TC and will announce their driver in the second week of March, ahead of the opening round of the season at Monza over the 21/22/23/24 March.

Since joining the series in 2005, the team have secured the Yokohama Independents’ title twice, in 2005 with Marc Hennerici and in 2007 with Stefano D’Aste. 2012 saw the team secure their first outright victories in the series, with D’Aste winning at the Salzburgring and Suzuka en route to seventh overall in the drivers’ Championship and third in the Yokohama Independents’ trophy.

“At the start of the new season we are already in the ninth year of the World Touring Car Championship,” explains Greiner.

“We’re facing an exciting and hopefully successful season. Over the winter, we were able to develop together the BMW Motorsport BMW 320 TC in some areas. Before the start of the season at Monza we will reel off a few test miles, so that the team and drivers are well prepared to start the season!“ concluded Greiner.

The 2013 WTCC campaign once again heads to 12 circuits in 11 different countries and five different continents with Russia making its debut in June, with the series heading to the Moscow Raceway.
