Frank Wrathall delighted with maiden pole

Frank Wrathall and the Dynojet team secured their maiden Pole Position in the British Touring Car Championship after coming out on top in qualifying ahead of round 16 of the season.

Speaking after qualifying to Touring-Cars.net, the #11 Toyota Avensis driver was delighted to have secured his first BTCC Pole Position at the same circuit where he took his first Independents’ victory 12 months ago.

“It’s absolutely incredible,” said Wrathall, who topped the times with a 1m57.595s. “I didn’t expect it.

“We were struggling after Free Practice (P10 in FP2), so we headed into qualifying with no expectations.”

Wrathall admitted that his Pole Position lap was a good lap but he was unable to gauge how good a lap it really was due to the length of the lap around the Snetterton 300 circuit.

“I knew it was a good lap but I didn’t expect Pole Position,” added the Garstang racer. “As it is such a long lap, it is hard to guage how good a lap it really was.”

Looking ahead to the race tomorrow, Wrathall admits that it’ll be tough as he shares the front row with Jason Plato in the MG.

“It is going to be tough but a podium is achievable,” admitted Wrathall. “It will be good to run at the front.”

Round 16 of the season gets underway at 12pm Sunday, live on ITV4, ITV4 HD and itv.com/btcc.
