A 25 car field has been announced for the first World Touring Car Championship event of the year at Monza. A number of late additions were announced in recent days, bolstering the grid and meaning that drivers from fourteen different nationalities will be competing in Italy.
Late entries have been announced for a number of drivers – Spaniard Isaac Tutumlu will partner Mehdi Bennani at Proteam Racing, Belgian Andrea Barlesi will race for SUNRED whilst Spaniard Fernando Monje, who is also set to race at SUNRED, will compete not in the WTCC but in the European Touring Car Cup for the opening weekend.
It means that for the first event of the season the grid will comprise four different models of car – the Chevrolet Cruze, BMW 320, SEAT León and the Ford Focus ST. Two additional models are set to join the WTCC during the season, with LADA planning to enter its Granta model and Honda its Civic later in the year.
