Robert Dahlgren and Volvo seek first podium

Robert Dahlgren and the Polestar Racing Volvo team are looking to secure their first-ever podium in the World Touring Car Championship before the season is over.

Dahlgren, 31, has started 27 races over the past five races having made his début with the team in the 2007 Race of Sweden. However both the Swede and his experienced team have yet to secure their maiden podium in the WTCC, despite numerous wins in the prestigious Swedish championship.

“Our goal is to score a podium before the end of the season and the conditions are good for us this weekend,” admitted Dahlgren.

Recently Dahlgren has been on a consistently strong run of form, having scored points in each of the past six races. His best result so far this season is a fourth – taken in the first race in Germany at the end of July.

“We have taken substantial steps forward during the season and we have established our selves in the very top of WTCC. The Volvo C30 has performed well on all circuits that we’ve visited so far and Suzuka should be no exception.”

Team Principal of Volvo Polestar Racing Christian Dick believes that the fact that the WTCC has never visited the Suzuka East circuit will give them a stronger starting position alongside their rivals.

“Everyone starts with a blank sheet of paper and we feel confident ahead of this weekend, especially with our recent strong results,” said Dick .”The Suzuka track does seem to suit our car well with a lot of fast and medium fast corners.”

Dahlgren started his weekend in Japan on a strong note with the second fastest time in the Friday test session.
