Tony Gilham and Triple Eight part ways

Triple Eight have announced that with immediate effect Tony Gilham will no longer be driving for the team. The decision, which has arisen due to commercial reasons, cuts short Gilham’s debut season in the BTCC after just six of the ten meetings.

Gilham has scored a best result of 8th this season – although the Kent racer has failed to score for the last three meetings. After suffering the loss of an important sponsor early in the year Gilham has struggled to find the funds to continue – even recently announcing the auction of sponsor space on his car for Knockhill.

Despite the early end to his touring car campaign, Gilham has endeavoured to return to the series in the future.

Commenting on the news, Triple Eight Chairman Ian Harrison said: “I’m sorry that the relationship with Tony hasn’t worked out as both parties had hoped. He has driven well in what was always going to be a difficult first season for him in the BTCC. On behalf of Triple Eight I’d like to thank him for his contribution to the team and wish him well.

“Obviously we are now looking to fill the seat for the remainder of the season and will announce our plans in due course.”
