Ginetta extend BTCC support deal

British sports car manufacturer Ginetta has today announced that its two single make championships, the Ginetta G50 Cup and the Ginetta G40 Juniors, will support the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship for a further three years.

The two Championships have been a huge success since they were introduced to the package with the Ginetta G40 Juniors providing the first ever female winner within the British Touring Car Package in 2009, Sarah Moore.

Ginetta Chairman, Lawrence Tomlinson said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the Ginetta Championships are going to be part of the TOCA family for another three years. It’s been fantastic for us to be associated with what is undoubtedly the UK’s leading and most prestigious motorsport package.

“Alan Gow showed immense faith in us when we introduced the Junior Championship in 2008, especially as all the races are shown live on national television as part of the ITV4 programme. It now has huge numbers of fans and is one of the most watched parts of the programme – often second only to the Touring Cars.”

The Ginetta G50 Championship also provides close exciting racing and last weekend at Oulton Park (5th & 6th June 2010) had its biggest grid to date with 22 cars lining up for the weekend’s racing.

Lawrence added: “The Ginetta G50 championship is going from strength to strength and is attracting a phenomenal amount of interest. The grids are growing as the season progresses and that is really bucking the current trend with the impact that the difficult economic climate has had on motorsport in general.”

Meanwhile BTCC Series Director Alan Gow commented: “Ginetta has proven to be a fantastic addition to our race weekends with both the G50 and the G40 Junior Championships providing great racing and entertainment – so naturally I’m delighted to continue the program with them. Lawrence has shown his absolute determination to keep taking Ginetta forward as a company, and I’m pleased we can help play a part in him achieving those ambitions…..it’s a great British success story.”

This season’s Ginetta G40 and G50 Championships are set to be higher profile than ever before – with ITV’s increased television coverage for the Dunlop MSA BTCC – which is now likely to surpass 120 hours in 2010. ITV 4 will dedicate some 65 hours to all ten rounds live on Sunday afternoons.
