Tom Chilton leads from Gordon Shedden again in second practice

Tom Chilton once again assumed his customary position at the top of the practice timesheet this afternoon – beating Gordon Shedden by exactly the same margin as in the first practice session of the day. Jason Plato was third fastest, with Chevrolet team-mate Alex MacDowall fourth.

It was a case of déjà vu as the top two in the session finished exactly the same. After the session Shedden told btcc.net: “I think we’ve seen everyone play their hand and possibly it’ll be between us two for pole position in qualifying this afternoon – maybe someone needs to slap a bit more gel, 0.025s worth, on his hair to slow him down a bit!”

Plato was the third fastest car despite carrying ballast, a strong performance which will undoubtedly boost his confidence for tomorrow’s races. Team-mate MacDowall also showed good pace in the session and goes into qualifying full of confidence.

Championship leader Matt Neal was again unable to match his team-mates scintillating pace and was sixth fastest, although his pace is still strong considering the lead trophy he is carrying at the moment. Mat Jackson was the top BMW driver in seventh, whilst behind him both James Nash and Paul O’Neill improved on their morning sessions.

Rob Collard, who was third fastest in the first session, was only 10th fastest in session two opting instead to focus on more of a race set-up.
