Jordan tops Rockingham testing

Andrew Jordan has topped today’s official BTCC test at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, setting a time a mere 0.001 seconds faster than the Chevrolet of Jason Plato.

Pirtek Racing driver Jordan set his fastest lap in the morning session whilst Plato set his fastest lap in the afternoon session to just miss out on the top spot. An incredibly close time sheet also saw James Nash set the third fastest time for Triple Eight in his non-turbo Vauxhall Vectra.

Matt Neal was the fastest Honda driver with the fourth fastest time. The Honda team were also running Gordon Shedden and James Thompson in the test, with 2002 and 2004 champion Thompson running in Shedden’s car to help with set-up work. Thompson is without a drive for 2010, although maintains a close relationship with the team having raced for them on several occasions during 2009. Shedden and Thompson set the 8th and 9th fastest times.

Alex MacDowall was fifth fastest, with Tom Chilton sixth fastest on his first run with the now-restricted Turbo LPG Ford Focus.

Daniel Lloyd had his first taste of a BTCC machine and impressed by setting the seventh fastest time for Triple Eight. The 18-year old has yet to make his debut in top level touring car racing and it remains to be seen if he will race for the team at all this year.

Forster Motorsport were the only BMW team at the test day, with Arthur Forster and Martin Depper completing the times sheet with the 13th and 14th fastest times. Neither reigning champions West Surrey Racing or Motorbase Performance were at the test session, with WSR deciding not to attend a test at a circuit that has already been raced for 2010.

The BTCC returns to action on the 5th/6th of June at Oulton Park in Cheshire.
