Andrew Jordan focused on ‘strong points finishes’ at Croft

Andrew Jordan says he is focused on delivering ‘strong points finishes’ in this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races at Croft, a circuit which he predicts will be good for his BMW.

Jordan reignited his championship challenge last time out at Oulton Park with a win and podium finish, which has moved him up to seventh overall in the drivers’ standings, 59 adrift of the lead.

The 2013 champion is now heading to a circuit which has historically favoured the rear-wheel drive cars, but Jordan is also predicting his front-wheel drive rivals to go well this weekend.

“Croft in the past has suited rear wheel drive cars,” said Jordan. “It should put us in a good position with the BMW, although I think the front wheel drive cars will also be strong – particularly in qualifying.

“It’s important that we play the long game as I feel the BMW will be good across a race distance, and whilst more wins and podiums are the aim, my focus is on three strong points finishes to help my championship position.”

Jordan will have to carry success ballast into the races in North Yorkshire, although the Pirtek BMW driver has just 27 kg on board, making him the lightest BMW on the grid.

“Like Oulton, Croft is a circuit that’s always been good for the rear-wheel-drive BMW because of the number of slow corners that reward a car that’s strong in the traction zones.

“Although I’ll be going in with more success ballast than I did at Oulton, I’m confident of another big points haul to help me continue to close the gap to the top of the points table.”

WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts praised Jordan’s attitude in his first year in BMW machinery, as he has not let poor weekends at both Donington Park and Thruxton keep him down.

“The thing that’s impressed me most about Andrew this year is his ability to do what true champions do and not dwell on a bad weekend,” added Bennetts. “He showed at Oulton Park that he’s not affected by what happened earlier in the season and drove very well.

“Like Oulton, Croft is a track at which we’ve done well in the past with the BMW and we’ve continued to work hard on the car this year to make sure it remains a contender at every circuit.

“The plan is to score big and enhance our position in the championship.”
