Bruno Spengler tops rain-affected second practice

2012 Champion Bruno Spengler posted the fastest time during a rain-affected second practice for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) at Moscow Raceway this morning.

The Team MTEK driver posted a lap time of 1:39.820 around the 3.931-km track with just 15 minutes left to go, before the rain started falling again.

Audi Sport and BMW were setting the early pace in the wet conditions, as the track improved over the first 25 minutes, before Miguel Molina braved the conditions on slicks, posting a 1:40.386.

Molina would eventually stay in second place, ahead of leading Mercedes driver Robert Wickens. The Canadian led a strong showing from the Stuttgart manufacturer, with five of its C63 AMG DTMs in the top ten.

Last year’s race winner Maxime Martin would place fourth, ahead of current points leader Matias Ekström. Gary Paffett posted the sixth fastest time, with fellow Brit Jamie Green a fraction behind the 2005 champion.

Christian Vietoris, Daniel Juncadella and Maximillian Götz completed the top ten, showing Mercedes’ competitiveness in the rain.

Antonio Giovinazzi, who currently leads the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, posted the 11th fastest time.

Defending champion Marco Wittmann, who set the pace in the first practice session, would only place as high as 16th.

Qualifying for Race 11 takes place at 1200 CEST (1100 BST).
