Gordon Shedden vows to keep fighting as title race narrows

After a trademark storming drive through the field in the middle British Touring Car Championship race at Silverstone, defending champion Gordon Shedden is aiming to ‘make the best’ of his reverse grid pole position as he aims to keep his championship defence on track heading to Brands Hatch.

A trip through the pit lane for repairs in race one hampered Shedden’s efforts and relegated him to a lowly 25th on the grid for race two, alongside team-mate Matt Neal. Half an hour and fifteen places later, the works Honda driver took the chequered flag in tenth and was reversed onto pole for the final race.

Speaking to TouringCars.net exclusively after the race, Shedden admitted he gave everything to pull himself back in contention for a decent result.

“I gave it everything in that race – I was passing down the inside, passing round the outside, doing absolutely everything. I don’t even know where we started, 25th? Something like that – way back, to get into the top ten seemed a long, long way away but I’ve always said I’ll never give up fighting and give it everything.” explained Shedden.

He rued his misfortune in the opening contest, but remained optimistic ahead of the final encounter, which gets underway at 17:17.

“It would have been nice if we’d finished the first one but we’ve got to try and make the best of it from what we can and see what happens, really.”
