ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Chilton clocked the fastest time in a brief morning warm-up, ahead of the first World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) races around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Chilton posted the fastest time towards the end of the half-hour session, lapping ahead of Honda’s Tiago Monteiro by just over two seconds.
Times were some way off the pace, however, as drivers took no risks ahead of the first of Saturday’s two races, which takes place at 11:15 CEST. Chilton’s best lap was more than ten seconds off the qualifying pace set on Friday.
Race one pole sitter José María López posted the tenth best time, some 14.771 seconds off the pace.
Neither LADA took to the track in the session in a continuation of their technical gremlins which began on Friday. Both the cars of Rob Huff and Jaap Van Lagen have had engine changes overnight and will start from the back of the grid in race one as a result. Van Lagen managed to complete one lap of the GP circuit, whilst Huff did not leave the pits.
Also failing to post a lap was Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente.
