Aarhus race winners

The Classic Race Aarhus, founded by city councillor Niels Brøchner, was a historic race event first held in 2010 on the streets of the Danish city of Aarhus, the second-largest city in Denmark, inspired by a similar event held in Copenhagen.

The 2.6 km circuit was known for its tight confines, and in the first years used to stage races with historic cars only.

The Danish Thundersport Championship, then the top-tier of tin-top racing in Denmark, first raced on the track in 2013, continuing through to 2019.

With TCR Denmark latterly assuming the role of Denmark’s top national championship, the touring car series made its first and only visit to the city circuit in 2021.

The race was cancelled a year prior in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This ultimately impacted on finances, and 2021 proved to be the final year for the city races after the promoter went into bankruptcy after the new Autumn date proved a turn-off for spectators in the wetter and cooler conditions.

There have also been seven claims totalling more than €200,000 (2022) since then for the nuisance caused by the event to local residents – despite organisers erecting ‘noise walls’ in 2021, creating further headwinds for any potential revival.
