Gordon Shedden unites with Laser Tools Racing and MB Motorsport

Three-time British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden has been confirmed as the second driver for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, partnering Árón Taylor-Smith.

Like Taylor-Smith, Shedden will benefit from continuity, as he enters into his second season in Toyota Corolla machinery, whilst the team will continue to be run by Speedworks Motorsport.

The Scot is heading into his 15th full season in the BTCC, and his second with Speedworks in Toyota machinery.

The 53-time race winner went from struggling to score top ten results in the first half of 2025, to regularly challenging for top five results at the end of the season.

He ended the year ninth overall in the drivers’ standings, having also scored one win, with a notable upturn in performance after switching to running the TOCA engine from the second Donington Park round onwards.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport team for 2026 – there’s something that just feels right about a Scotsman donning those iconic blue and white colours,” said Shedden.

“Buoyed by the way that I ended the season in the Corolla last year, I’m heading into the new season hugely motivated and ready to take the fight to the next level.

“It’s a huge benefit to have our plans in place so early so our planning and preparation can start in earnest – I owe a lot of gratitude to my personal partners and the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport partners in making that possible.

“The programme is being brought together incredibly professionally, and I am confident that we are going to be in a great position to have a successful year together.”

Mark Blundell, Sporting Director of Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, is looking forward to working with Shedden for his outfit’s first two-car campaign in the BTCC.

“Welcoming Gordon into the fold for 2026 is a huge coup for the team,” added Blundell. “His reputation, results and record speak for themselves – we are signing up one of the series’ most successful drivers ever to complete a super strong lineup for our first year as a two-car outfit.

“In all our conversations to get to this point, Gordon’s hunger and desire to succeed has been obvious and we look forward to providing him with the platform he needs to hunt down even more victories.”
