Maxime Martin: ‘It was an incredible race’

With BMW asserting their dominance on the city streets of Nuremberg this past weekend, it showed another new challenger emerge towards the drivers’ title, with Maxime Martin’s consistency ensuring him a place in the top three of the current standings.

Having already taken a pole position and finishing second to Bruno Spengler in the first race of the weekend, the Belgian made an electric start to get him towards the sharp end of the field in the early stages.

“I made a very good start from seventh on the grid and was already fourth by the end of the opening lap. I was third after lap two, after some of the other cars had already been in for their stop,” explained Martin, who has now put himself further up the standings to third on 78 points.

“I pushed really hard after that and was able to take the lead after the safety car phase.”

Until the red flag came out on lap 34 after the hefty impact involving both Mike Rockenfeller and Gary Paffett going into turn one, the Team RBM driver extended his gap significantly.

“That was not easy after the red flag and the subsequent restart, but it worked out. I was third in Budapest, runner-up yesterday, and winner today – it is fantastic.”
