Ash Sutton doubles up with unchallenged Snetterton race two win

Ash Sutton took a commanding second race win in a row at Snetterton this afternoon, as the Adrian Flux Subaru Racing driver led from lights-to-flag to take his fourth win of the season.

Sutton now also takes the lead in the drivers’ standings, as he won by 2.955 seconds ahead of the Team BMW pairing of Colin Turkington and Rob Collard, who completed the rostrum.

Motorbase’s Mat Jackson took home the independents’ trophy, having fought his way up from 11th on the grid to finish fourth, ahead of Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff, who held onto second for the majority of the race until lap 12 when the BMW duo got past.

Andrew Jordan had been in the wars, as the BMW Pirtek driver was battling with Jason Plato for what was second out on track, with the pair clashing on lap one.

Jordan was still able to battle at the sharp end of the field, but would have settle for sixth, having been passed by both Collard and Turkington with four laps of the race to go.

Gordon Shedden is still in the hunt for the drivers’ title, as the Halfords Yuasa Racing driver moved his way up to seventh from 13th on the grid, ahead of the next best-placed Subaru of James Cole. It was Cole who was later selected to start the final race of the day in pole position after the random reverse grid draw.

Matt Neal slipped down to seventh in the initial stages of the race from third, but would take ninth place from Speedworks’ Tom Ingram by just under a second at the flag.

The race would be extended for a further two laps just two tours in, as contact between Maximum Motorsport’s Stewart Lines and MG Racing’s Josh Cook on the approach to Murrays on lap one saw the pair go off track, bringing out the Safety Car.

Lines’ car would be recovered after the Ford Focus suffered a heavy frontal impact, forcing him to retire, whilst Eurotech Racing’s Brett Smith would pull his Honda Civic off track a lap after the restart.

Handy Motorsport’s Rob Austin would also make headway through the field after his clash with Ingram in race one, as his Toyota Avensis would finish 15th after starting 27th, whilst Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan gained nine places over race distance to finish 19th.

Round 18 of the 2017 British Touring Car Championship starts at 1702 BST, lasting for 12 laps.
