Hyundai i30 TCR completes further testing in Valencia

The new Hyundai i30 TCR car completed three ‘intensive’ further days of testing in Valencia recently, with the focus being on the brake and damper settings of the new touring car.

The tests at the Spanish circuit earlier this week, between the 30 May and 1 June, allowed the manufacturer to focus on improving the performance of Hyundai’s first touring car.

Having previously tested at the Motorland Aragon Circuit, also in Spain and Misano in Italy, Hyundai moved to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo due to its mixture of a long front straight, technical infield section and sweeping penultimate corner.

Time during the test was spent assessing different brake materials and damper settings, with lead development driver Gabriele Tarquini then taking to the circuit to test out the changes and subsequently compare the data to that collected during the first two tests.

“Already we have proved that we have a very strong base car,” said Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing manager Andrea Adamo. “However, this early in a project there are always areas where you can still increase performance and, more importantly for customer project, improve drivability.

“After establishing the foundations for the set-up at our previous tests we are now building on to them. At Valencia we focused on the damper and brake settings, and we finished this week with very good information in these areas.

“Future tests will concentrate on other areas, such as developing the aerodynamic package and maximizing the power from the engine.”

The car, which is being developed from Hyundai Motorsport’s base in Alzenau in Germany, is expected to be delivered to the first customers in early December 2017.
