Florian Thoma greatly satisfied with maiden TCR victory

Junior Team Engstler’s Florian Thoma made a blistering start to his touring car racing career at Oschersleben this weekend, winning the second race from reverse grid pole.

It was an overwhelmingly successful weekend for the Swiss driver, achieving not only his, but the teams’ and Volkswagen’s first victory in the ADAC TCR Germany championship.

“I always want to be up front – no matter how many drivers start a race. Today, I have achieved that. I feel very comfortable with the team, the series is great and I am looking forward to the next races in Spielberg,” Thoma said.

The Engstler driver is more than elated with his performance, adding: “I am greatly satisfied: It’s perfect, it could not have been better. Immediately getting the first win in my second touring car race.

“It was hairy from time to time, but I managed the restarts after the safety car very well. I have simply given my best today and everything fell into place.”

Team Engstler team boss Franz Engstler too found very clear words to describe his and the teams’ feelings after Sunday’s sprint race.

“We are absolutely pleased, it could have not gone better. We made some tweaks to the setup before the race. I really have to give a huge compliment to Florian for converting it so perfectly. He did a fantastic job.”
