Nicky Catsburg looking for victory at Nordschleife, despite troubled qualifying

Nicky Catsburg may be a busy individual at the Nürburging Nordschleife for two seperate events, but the Dutch racer is resolute in looking to better his set of results this weekend at the Race of Germany tomorrow (Saturday, May 27th).

The 29-year-old, who set the fastest-ever time for a World Touring Car Championship driver in the third visit to the Eifel-based circuit, had his fair share of dramas during qualifying, having narrowly missed out to eventual main race pole sitter Norbert Michelisz.

“My lap in practice was really good, but I’m a bit disappointed with my qualifying lap as I had an issue on my final run that also affected my car for MAC3,” explained Catsburg, who went wide at the same place as team mate Nestor Girolami on his final attempt,  as the Argentinian is on the reverse grid pole for the opening race.

He was the driver that was told by the Swedish outfit to hold back in the MAC3 Time Trial, which still saw Polestar take the win by 20.205 seconds from Castrol Honda Racing.

“We definitely have the pace to win here and that is the important bit,” he admitted, having only been 0.608 seconds slower than the Hungarian at the end of qualifying.

“In total a good day for us though, scoring important points in both qualifying sessions.”
